The subject of Chick-fil-A can elicit a contentious discussion here at The Takeout, but removing the politics, we find the product pretty tasty. Not too long ago we sampled nearly 50 fast food dipping sauces and named Chick-fil-A’s namesake sauce as our favorite of the group. It was a versatile sauce for all seasons, good with chicken, fries, and steamed vegetables alike. It’s tangy and rich, as if honey mustard, mayo, and barbecue sauce hung out together.

　　Of course, copycats were bound to pop up. The Today Show is reporting that Walmart has been selling a generic “Restaurant-Style Chicken Dipping Sauce” under the brand name “Great Value”—and we’re told it’s a dead ringer for Chick-fil-A sauce.

　　The author was apparently tipped off by a Reddit thread started a year ago, which one Redditor wrote “honestly couldn’t have told the difference. And I’m a hardcore Chick-fil-A sauce person.”

　　Replicating Chick-fil-A sauce at home, apparently, isn’t too difficult. Looking through the various recipes online, homemade Chick-fil-A sauce is some combination of mustard, lemon juice, honey, mayonnaise, plus barbecue sauce. Some opt for just yellow mustard, others a mix of yellow and Dijon. The ratios are to your liking.
