‘Voices’ Community Conversation: George Floyd, One Year Later
‘Voices’ Community Conversation: George Floyd, One Year Later-April 2024
Apr 1, 2026 9:31 PM

Tuesday marks a grim anniversary: the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin, which ignited a wave of protest throughout the country and world.

On Monday, “Chicago Tonight: Black Voices” host and “Chicago Tonight” co-host Brandis Friedman moderated a community conversation on the racial justice movement and were it stands today.

Friedman was joined by Berto Aguayo, director and co-founder of Increase the Peace; Xavier Ramey, CEO of Justice Informed; Arewa Justice Winters of Justice For Families; Grace Pai, director of organizing at Asian Americans Advancing Justice; and Jazmine Salas, co-chair of the Chicago Alliance Against Racial and Political Repression.

During the conversation, guests reflected on the past year, discussing progress, setbacks and the path forward.

Upcoming event

Our “Chicago Tonight: Latino Voices” community conversation is set for Monday, June 28 at 8 p.m. Visit wttw.com/events to RSVP.
