In a confirmed casting announcement for the upcoming DC Comics film "The Batman," directed by Matt Reeves, Jeffrey Wright has been officially cast as Commissioner Jim Gordon. Reeves shared the news via Twitter with a GIF of Wright mouthing "Tweet something" and captioning it "#Gordon." Wright, an Emmy and Golden Globe winner known for his role in "Westworld," joins an already impressive cast including Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle and Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne.
Commissioner Gordon is a significant character in the Batman universe and has been portrayed by notable actors such as J.K. Simmons in "Justice League" and Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy. In addition to his role in "The Batman," Wright will also lend his voice to the Disney+ series "What If…?" and Netflix’s animated series "Green Eggs and Ham."
Notably, Wright, a native of Washington D.C., celebrated the 2019 World Series win of the city's baseball team, the Washington Nationals, on his Twitter account, humorously using the hashtag #LockHimUp in reference to a certain political figure, demonstrating a witty alignment with the authoritative nature of his new role as Commissioner Gordon.
