There is certainly no shortage of Hollywood-focused podcasts promising behind-the-scenes looks at movies and TV shows, from fan rewatch and general commentary shows to scoop-y insider interview programs.

But Hollywood unions have an especially up-close-and-personal perspective on the business, and now an industry crafts guild is joining the select number with their own shows.

On May 22 the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) is set to unveil a podcast called Outside the Frame. Hosted by the executive editor of the films internal publication ICG Magazine, David Geffner, the show promises to take listeners behind the scenes with the creative teams shaping todays film and television industry, particularly through conversations with ICG members themselves. The 10,000-member union bargains on behalf of its namesake directors of photography as well as camera operators, camera assistants, loaders and utilities, still photographers, visual effects supervisors, digital imaging technicians, video controllers and studio publicists.

Unsurprisingly, the first few episodes of the show will showcase the unions access to top creatives who belong to its ranks, as well as their collaborators. The first episode will feature Captain America: Brave New World cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau as well as the films director, Julius Onah. The episode will also include an interview with Caleb Dewart, an executive producer at commercials production company Hungry Man, about retaining production work in Southern California.

The second episode, premiering in June, is set to feature a conversation with The Pitt director of photography Johanna Coelho and B-camera operator Aymae Sulick.

Its not the only Hollywood union to have a podcast: SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America Wests shows notably highlight both members work and the groups perspectives on various labor disputes and issues, while the WGA East and the Directors Guild of Americas are more craft-focused.

And a few other unions representing so-called below-the-line crafts have their own: Between 2019-2020, the Editors Guild recorded Post, Coast to Coast while last year the Art Directors Guild launched Keepin It 800: An ADG Podcast. Still, its a select number that host these programs, especially on a regular basis. See a link to the show trailer below.
