Former ‘Jeopardy!’ Exec Mike Richards to Join Ben Shapiro at The Daily Wire as President
Former ‘Jeopardy!’ Exec Mike Richards to Join Ben Shapiro at The Daily Wire as President-August 2024
Aug 27, 2025 1:37 AM

Mike Richards, the veteran TV producer who briefly succeeded Alex Trebek as the host of the quiz show Jeopardy!, has landed a big job in conservative media.

Richards has joined The Daily Wire as its next president of Daily Wire entertainment and chief content officer, leading all the entertainment operations of the conservative media company founded by Ben Shapiro.

Richards joins after the exit of Jeremy Boreing, who stepped down as CEO of the company back in March, and is expected to work out of its Nashville headquarters. Caleb Robinson succeeded Boreing as CEO of the company.

His hire suggests that The Daily Wire will continue its ambitions beyond politics and news commentary, though it may scale back some of the efforts Boreing championed, which included a non-figure investment into childrens programming, and big budget bets like The Pendragon Cycle.

We knew the answer was, Who is Mike Richards? And now we can say hes an integral part of The Daily Wire was the question, said Gloria Taylor, a rep for The Daily Wire. Hes won 5 Emmys, produced over 4,000 hours of network programming, and run some of the most iconic shows the world has ever known. Thank you to the purple hairs. Please cancel more creative geniuses.

Shapiro leveraged a combination of political opinionating and pop culture to build the company into one of the largest players in conservative media outside of the traditional ecosystems.

Richards, of course, had a lengthy career as both a game show producer and host, including long stints at The Price Is Right and Lets Make a Deal, before joining Sony and becoming the executive producer of Jepardy!.

Following Alex Trebeks death in 2020, Jeopardy! featured rotating guest hosts for months, including a few stints in which Richards himself hosted. Sony, which produced the quiz show, named Richards the permanent host of the program in August 2020.

That role was short-lived, however, after comments he made on old podcasts came to light.

As I mentioned last week, I was deeply honored to be asked to host the syndicated show and was thrilled by the opportunity to expand my role, Richards told staff after the comments came out. However, over the last several days it has become clear that moving forward as host would be too much of a distraction for our fans and not the right move for the show.

He subsequently also stepped aside as EP of the show.
