The Field Museum is reopening this week, after shutting its doors in November due to a surge in coronavirus cases.

The museum is welcoming back members beginning Thursday and the general public on Saturday. Advance ticket purchase is recommended, with online sales now open. The museum is free for Illinois residents on Monday and Thursday, Jan. 28. All admission, free or not, is via timed entry.

Safety precautions include: attendance capped at 25% of the museum’s full capacity, floor markers to ensure social distancing, one-way paths through the museum, nearly 150 hand sanitizer stations, and a mask requirement. Touch-screen interactives and high-touch areas, including the Crown Family PlayLab, will remain off limits, along with smaller galleries where social distancing is difficult.

The Field will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with plans to eventually reopen seven days a week. Hours remain 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
