Chicago Blizzard of 1967: Part 2
Chicago Blizzard of 1967: Part 2
May 19, 2024 8:32 AM

While there was initially a celebratory mood in parts of the city, that good vibe disappeared rather quickly.

When the storm ended on Jan. 27, 1967 — with 23 inches of snow on the ground — some 20,000 cars were left abandoned in the city. Even when plows could get through, many streets were left with only one passable lane. Even more troubling than the transportation crisis: the growing food shortages.
