With its building “full to the brim” with cats and dogs, Chicago’s municipal-run animal shelter is waiving adoption fees for those looking to bring home a new pet this holiday season.

Through Dec. 15, Chicago Animal Care and Control will eliminate its regular $65 adoption fee as part of the shelter’s “Home for the Holidays” adoption initiative, according to an announcement from CACC.

In addition to their new pet, adopting families will go home with a free set of pet care supplies, courtesy of Rescue Bank and Wiggle Waggles/6 Mutts Chicago food truck.

All dogs and cats available for adoption at CACC are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and equipped with microchips that serve as a permanent form of identification.

CACC is hosting a holiday party on Saturday, Dec. 15, the final day of its holiday adoption drive. The event is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. at CACC, 2741 S. Western Ave.

In addition to CACC’s adoption initiative, the Cook County sheriff’s office announced last week that it is seeking permanent homes for two dogs that recently completed its new Tails of Redemption program, which partners shelter dogs with detainees at Cook County Jail. A video of the dogs, Gilmore and Rochelle, can be viewed here.

Anyone interested in meeting and adopting either dog should call the sheriff’s office at 312-603-4242 to set up an appointment.

For more information about adopting through CACC or to download an application, visit the department’s website.
