CAA Sports has acquired the international sports management firm Portas Consulting to bolster its strategy advice and services for its sports world clients.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the sports division of Creative Artists Agency will bring on board Portas Consulting executive chairman and founderDavid Portas, managing partnerDonal McElweeand around 160 staffers to join a rebranded CAA Portas division.
Acquiring Portas Consulting will also aim to bolster CAA Sports outreach to governments, sports bodies and corporate entities in the professional sports world on behalf of its clients. The deal also comes as the Hollywood talent agency continues to see the line between pro sports and entertainment blur. Portas Consulting, based in London, also has offices in Riyadh, Dubai and Singapore to get CAA deeper on the ground in the Middle East. CAA Sports currently has 18 divisions, including athlete representation, brand consulting, media rights, executive search and venue development.
CAA Sports, which among other services negotiates naming rights for stadium deals and brand partnerships, represents top global athletes in sports like baseball, football, hockey, basketball and soccer, in addition to coaches, on-air broadcasters and sports personalities.
