Gypsy soared to $1.6 million last week as the revival finished its Broadway run.

The musical, starring Audra McDonald, played to 94 percent capacity at the Majestic Theatre and brought in an average ticket price of $134.58. The show, which opened in December, but announced an early closing Aug. 17, has not seen those ticket prices and box office tally since the winter. The $1.607 million tally made the show the fourth highest grossing show in the industry last week.

Mamma Mia! opened at the Winter Garden Theatre Aug. 14, and brought in $1.606 million across its first eight-show week (which also included the comped opening and comped tickets for press preview performances). The show played to 100 percent capacity and ranked as the fifth highest grossing show last week. Hamilton was the highest grossing show last week, unseating long-standing top earner Wicked, with $2.2 million. Wicked was the second highest grossing show last week with $2 million and The Lion King followed with $1.9 million.

Purpose is continuing its post-Tonys ascent, as the most recent best play and Pulitzer Prize winner hit its highest gross yet last week of $763,560, and played to close to 100 percent capacity.Average ticket price hit a new high of $165.06.

The majority of shows saw their grosses tumble last week as Broadway enters its early fall slump ahead of new show openings. Overall industry grosses were down 4 percent from the prior week and attendance was down 2.3 percent.
