Argentinian actress Luisana Lopilato (Chiquititas, Rebelde Way, Pipa, The Marriage App), whose husband is Michael Bubl, made her presence felt at the fifth edition of Iberseries Platino Industria in Madrid on Tuesday evening, discussing her transition to not only starring in but also producing movies.

I would wait for projects that would never come, the star explained of her decision. She emphasized that I trust myself with what I know and like, sharing that I always knock on doors, even if someone says no.

Asked how she develops ideas, Lopilato said she loves to read and comes across stories that fascinate her. I always have material at home, and Im always telling my husband, who is here with me Im working on this story I just received. How can I improve it? And thats how everything starts, working at home. Lopilato told the Iberseries audience that she just finished shooting a previously announced film inspired by the life of Margarita Di Tullio, who made a name for herself as the queen of Argentinas underworld, citing her interest in real-life stories. Directed by Lucia Puenzo, the film is called Pepita la Pistolera, or The Gunwoman (Pepitas Legend) in English, with Lopilato in the lead role.

This is a story that I was looking for for a long time, she said. I started during COVID and I was asking people who work with me, Please, lets try to buy the rights. Lets tell the story! As an actress, I love stories based on real facts. So I found someone that had the rights. We got into contact, and I said that I wanted to do it. There was another actress interested, but I created all this PowerPoint [stuff] with all the ideas I had for the movie, even the light, [to prove that] I was actually genuine.

While no streaming platform wanted to back it, she recalled, she still pushed on. One of my managers said lets start from scratch like movies used to be done with a director and producer, she said.

For another movie, she signed a co-production deal to shoot in Canada to make the budget work. We just finished shooting it, she added, without sharing plot details.

Lopilato also shared that while her work as a producer and star means more work and pressure, she has learned a lot about marketing costs, distribution trends and other aspects of the film business through producing.
