A Grieving Community Again Calls for Police Reform in Chicago
A Grieving Community Again Calls for Police Reform in Chicago-June 2024
Jun 23, 2025 10:23 AM

The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis has led to days of protests from grieving, frustrated demonstrators in that city and others across the U.S., including Chicago, and around the world. It’s also brought back memories of the death of Laquan McDonald, who was killed by Chicago police six years ago.

In both cases, community members have called for police reform, and some say not nearly enough has happened since McDonald’s death.

We speak with the Rev. Marvin Hunter, a pastor at Grace Memorial Baptist Church and Laquan McDonald’s great uncle whose niece, Tina Hunter, is Laquan McDonald’s mother.
