A 19-year-old man drowned in Lake Michigan off Porter Beach Tuesday, according to Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the beach at 6:50 p.m. after receiving a call of two people in distress in the water.

According to investigators, the 19-year-old was swimming with a 14-year-old family member when the current pulled them into deeper water where both began to struggle.

A witness rescued the 14-year-old girl, but it took 20 minutes to locate the man. CPR was performed once he was brought to shore and both teens were taken to a nearby hospital. The girl is in good condition, but the 19-year--old died, officials said. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

This is the second drowning in a week off Lake Michigan’s Northwest Indiana shoreline.A 7-year-old boy died June 15after being pulled from the water near the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Beach.

In Chicago, police officers were called to the lakefront Wednesday morning at Pratt Boulevard in Rogers Park with a report of a person in the water. An unidentified man, approximately 60 to 65 years old, was pulled from the lake and pronounced dead on scene. Detectives are conducting a death investigation, pending autopsy results, officials said.
