A 13-year-old boy is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly robbed two women on a CTA Brown Line train earlier this month.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the boy was charged Wednesday with two counts of robbery and a single count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
Police said the robbery occurred at around 1:45 a.m. on June 4 onboard a train in the 0-100 block of West Van Buren Street.
According to a CPD community alert published over the weekend, the victims — listed as 24- and 25-year-old women — were approached by the 13-year-old and another male, who used force to take the victims’ cell phones before fleeing the train.
The 25-year-old woman attempted to stop one of the alleged robbers, at which time she fell and injured her leg, police said.
The 13-year-old was arrested Tuesday in the 7400 block of S. Kingston Avenue. Because he was charged as a juvenile, his name has not been released.
According to CPD data, violent crime and overall transit crime on the CTA are each down 10% year-to-date through the end of May.
