Light Supplementation in Hydroponic Systems

Definition: Light supplementation refers to the practice of providing additional artificial light to plants in hydroponic systems to optimize their growth and development.

Concept: In hydroponic gardening, plants are grown without soil, relying on nutrient-rich water solutions to provide essential elements for growth. While hydroponic systems offer several advantages, such as efficient water usage and precise nutrient control, the availability and quality of light can be a limiting factor for plant growth.

Plants require light for photosynthesis, the process by which they convert light energy into chemical energy to fuel their growth. In traditional outdoor gardening, plants receive sunlight, which provides a full spectrum of light wavelengths necessary for photosynthesis. However, in indoor hydroponic systems, natural light is often insufficient or inconsistent, especially in areas with limited sunlight or during certain seasons.
