Definition: What are adaptogenic herbs?

Adaptogenic herbs are a category of plants that have been used for centuries in traditional medicine systems, such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). These herbs are known for their ability to help the body adapt and respond to various stressors, both physical and mental.

Unlike other herbs that may have specific actions or effects on the body, adaptogenic herbs work by modulating the body’s stress response system, known as the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. They help regulate the production and balance of stress hormones, such as cortisol, and promote homeostasis.
