Apr 15, 2026 11:41 AM

The attacks come fast and furious in the Chicago mayoral runoff race as Paul Vallas hits Brandon Johnson for past “defund the police” comments and Johnson criticizes Vallas’ tenure leading public school systems.

In week one of the trial of the so-called “ComEd Four,” jurors hear recordings showing how former longtime Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan operated.

At the Chicago Police Department, it’s over and out for Superintendent David Brown as First Deputy Eric Carter takes over as interim superintendent and the search for Brown’s replacement begins.

Pushback as Chicago’s debut NASCAR race looks set to close Grant Park for some 40 days, pushing Taste of Chicago back to September.

And in sports: The Northwestern Wildcats move on to round two of the NCAA Tournament, while the Fighting Illini get bounced out by the Arkansas Razorbacks. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears sign a bevy of free agents but stay on the sidelines as high-priced players go elsewhere.
