Folks found themselves snuggling together on Valentine’s Day not so much due to romance but for warmth.

Chicago set a new record for the coldest Feb. 14 in history, with a high temperature of just 4 degrees recorded at O’Hare Airport on Sunday,according to the National Weather Service.

The previous record for lowest maximum temperature was 8 degrees, set in 1943.

Chicago has been in the grip of an arctic blast since early February. Temperatures last topped the freezing mark on Feb. 4, and aren’t forecast to rise above 32 degrees until this coming weekend.

Preliminary data from the NWS shows the average monthly temperature for February, to date, has been more than 12 degrees below normal.
