In the wake of a budget dealin Springfield, a staff shakeup in the Rauner administration. State Rep. Steve Andersson is deposed as GOP floor leader. The state’s credit rating is still on shaky ground despite S&P bumping Illinois up a notch, and the battle continues over school funding bill SB1.

Locally, big layoffs are predicted after Cook County’s soda tax is blocked in court. The Chicago Sun-Times has new owners, led by former Ald. Edwin Eisendrath and the Chicago Federation of Labor. And big changes ahead for Lake Shore Drive.

In sports, a major crosstown trade as Cubs get Sox pitching ace Jose Quintana.
