Joel Weisman and his panel discuss the week’s news, including lots ofaction in the City Council:Aldermen approved new regulations for rideshare companies and Airbnb rentals in the city. Liquor sales will be allowed in Wrigley Plaza under new regulations, but the Chicago Cubs aren’t happy with the limitations on those sales. Drivers no longer need to fear overzealous towing companies as aldermen approved a “towing bill of rights.” Rounding out the flurry of activity in City Hall were the approval of paid sick leave for people who work in the city and an ordinance that allows transgender people to use public bathrooms that correspond to their gender identity.

There's more tussling over the Lucas Museum as the Friends of the Parks issues its terms for negotiating with the city for the museum to be built at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center. High levels of lead are found in more Chicago Public Schools. Meanwhile, Gov. Bruce Rauner calls bankruptcy for CPSthe "best option" and says he will seek re-election in 2018. Former U.S. Speaker Dennis Hastert reports to prison to start his 15-month sentence. And hometown hero Derrick Rose is traded to the New York Knicks.
