The Week in Review: Former Alderman Federally Indicted, Legislative Session Nears End-May 2024

Former Ald. Danny Solis has been charged with bribery.Solis played a key role in the federal probe of former Ald. Ed Burke. A 14-count indictment made public in May 2019 alleges Burke used his position at City Hall to force those doing business with the city to hire his private law firm by the Department of Justice.

Southwest Side Ald. Lopez officially announced he’s running for mayor of Chicago. Lopez told WTTW News he’s “all-in” and will be giving up his seat on the City Council.

The General Assembly is scheduled to adjourn its abbreviated spring session Friday. Voting is scheduled for the $45 billion-dollar Illinois state budget deal reached Thursday by the governor and Democratic House and Senate leaders.

Ketanji Brown Jackson marked her historic confirmation as the first Black woman on the US Supreme Court. She was confirmed yesterday by the full senate on a 53-47 vote, which included three GOP senators voting in the affirmative.
