The Week in Review: Feds Defend Solis Deal, State Budget Passes-April 2024

This week, prosecution on former Ald. Danny Solis’ bribery charge was delayed to April 2025 as federal prosecutors commended Solis during a Thursday court hearing for cooperating in an agreement leading to criminal charges against Ald. Ed Burke, former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and others.

In state politics, Gov. J. B. Pritzker signs a $46.5 billion Illinois budget while millions flow into the gubernatorial campaign coffers of Pritzker, Aurora mayor Richard Irvin and state Sen. Darren Bailey.

In other news this week, Monty the piping plover, an endangered bird species, returns to Montrose Beach for his fourth summer, but his longtime mate Rose is still nowhere to be seen. In sports, the Chicago Bulls take on the Milwaukee Bucks at home for game 3 as both teams are tied with a single win in the NBA playoff’s first round.
