City officials plead for calm after videos of the Chicago police officer shooting 13-year-old, Adam Toledo, are released. Mayor Lori Lightfoot gets emotional, saying the city failed the teen as she also takes aim at the Chicago Police Department’s foot-pursuit policy.

This as the nation grapples with two other police-involved deaths. In Brooklyn Center, Minnesota the 26-year veteran officer quits and is charged with second-degree manslaughter in the shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright. And 10 miles away from that deadly incident, former officer Derek Chauvin’s defense rests without him taking the stand in the knee-to-the-neck death of George Floyd. The jury is expected to start deliberations next week.

Meanwhile, the vaccination rollout continues here despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s pause on the one-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union reach a tentative agreement so high school students will head back to in-class learning Monday. In Springfield, competing elected school board bills wind through the legislature.

And, the Obama Presidential Center gets closer to an official groundbreaking as another suit is filed to stop the project.
