‘The Housemaid 2,’ Starring Sydney Sweeney and Kirsten Dunst, Lands Holiday 2027 Release-May 2024
May 22, 2026 8:07 AM

Sydney Sweeneys forthcoming sequel to The Housemaid is putting down roots.

Lionsgate announced Monday that director Paul Feigs The Housemaids Secret is set for wide theatrical release Dec. 17, 2027. The adaptation of Freida McFaddens novel sees Sweeney reprise her role from last years hit thriller, while Kirsten Dunst joins the franchise. Michele Morrone also returns from the first movie to play Enzo.

The Housemaids Secret centers on Millie (Sweeney), the lead of the initial film, who agrees to keep house for a woman she is never allowed to see. Eventually, Millie discovers the truth behind the locked door that hides secrets darker than even the ones she herself keeps. Also set for release on that date are Marvels Avengers: Secret Wars and Warner Bros. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

This weekend marks the same one that saw last years The Housemaid open to $19 million before collecting $125 million domestically and nearly $400 million globally. Serving as producers on The Housemaids Secret are Feig and Laura Fischer for Pretty Dangerous Pictures, Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures and Sweeney for Fifty-Fifty Films.

Feig returns from the first film to helm the sequel from a script by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who also penned the screenplay for the 2025 movie. Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar also starred in The Housemaid. Lionsgate optioned McFaddens novel trilogy before the books became best-sellers.

Carly Elter and Alex Young of Hidden Pictures serve as executive producers for the new movie, while Fifty-Fiftys Kaylee McGregor will co-produce. Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio oversee the sequel for the studio.

In his review of The Housemaid for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney wrote, If youre eager to escape the family over the holidays with a good-looking entertainment shot through with salacious nastiness and blood-stained perversion, look no further.
