The moist air that’s turned Chicago into a sauna the past few weeks is finally on its way out, bringing relief to folks who’ve been wilting in the “feels like 100-degree” heat.

According to the National Weather Service, drier air is moving into the region, bringing with it more comfortable weather.

How miserable has August been?

The weather service reported 19 days of dew points (the measure of atmospheric moisture) in the “very humid” or “oppressive” range. High dew points also mean warm nights, with temperatures seldom dipping below 70 degrees.

The coming week will see daytime temperatures maxing out in the mid-70s to low 80s and falling to the 60s or even upper 50s overnight.

The dog days, for now, are over.
