Streaming Ratings: ‘Red One’ Tops ‘Carry-On’ in Holiday Action Movie Matchup-March 2024

Prime Videos Red One and Netflixs Carry-On both had big opening weeks in streaming, with Red One coming out on top in Nielsens charts.

Christmas-themed action comedy Red One, which the Amazon streamer touted as its biggest worldwide premiere to date, racked up 2.1 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Dec. 9-15. (The movie, starring Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson, also had a short theatrical run, making about $186 million worldwide at the box office.)

Carry-On, meanwhile, scored 1.69 billion minutes of viewing for Netflix for the week, albeit with one fewer day: It premiered on Dec. 13, while Red One began streaming Dec. 12 on Prime Video. The thriller starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman is currently in Netflixs top five English-language films to date (as measured over the first 91 days of release). Netflix also had a strong streaming premiere for It Ends With Us, the controversy-laden movie based on Colleen Hoovers best-selling novel. It drew 977 million minutes of watch time for the week, good for fourth place overall in Nielsens rankings.

Black Doves led the series charts for Dec. 9-15 with just over 1 billion viewing minutes, up 11 percent from 899 million the previous week. The Madness, which had been No. 1 overall the prior two weeks, fell to fourth among original series with 560 million minutes, behind Netflixs dark comedy No Good Deed (883 million) and Paramount+s Taylor Sheridan drama Landman (826 million), which continued its strong run. Jamie Foxxs Netflix special What Had Happened Was drew 413 million minutes of viewing.

Nielsens streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and dont include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure U.S. audiences, not those in other countries. The top streaming titles for Dec. 9-15, 2024, are below.
