‘Stranger Things’ Animated Spinoff Gets One-Day Theatrical Preview
‘Stranger Things’ Animated Spinoff Gets One-Day Theatrical Preview-May 2024
May 22, 2026 9:47 PM

After giving Stranger Things a sendoff that included a short theatrical run for the series finale, Netflix is headed back to cinemas for the next iteration of the show.

Netflix is partnering with AMC Theatres to preview the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From 85. The shows first two episodes (which have a total run time of about 55 minutes) will play in select AMC cinemas on April 18, five days before the shows full season debuts on Netflix.

The theatrical run for Tales From 85 is on a decidedly smaller scale than that of the Stranger Things series finale. The animated shows preview will have two showings (noon and 3 p.m. local time) in 34 AMC theaters across 20 states (see the list here), plus the Netflix-run Paris Theater in New York and the Netflix House in Philadelphia, on April 18. The Stranger Things finale played in some 600 theaters nationwide (including about 200 AMC locations) on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, raking in an estimated $20 million-$25 million at the box office. Stranger Things: Tales From 85 is set, as the title notes, in the winter of 1985, between seasons two and three of the main shows timeline. Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max have settled back into a normal life of DD, snowball fights, and quiet days, the shows logline reads. But beneath the ice, something terrifying has awakened. Could it be from the Upside Down? From the depths of Hawkins Lab? Or from somewhere else entirely? Our heroes must race to solve this mystery and save Hawkins in this new story set in the Stranger Things universe. Eric Robles is the showrunner for Tales From 85 and executive produces with Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer.

Tickets for the Tales From 85 theatrical preview go on sale at 11 a.m. ET/8 p.m. PT March 18.
