Steve Martin says the SNL50 COVID curse is real.

In an Instagram post shared Thursday, the Only Murders in the Building star announced that his co-star and friend Martin Short got COVID after attending the SNL50: The Anniversary Specialthat broadcast last weekend. He also revealed that Maya Rudolph, who also attended and performed in the special, had it as well.

Maya had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real, Martin said while sharing a photo of both Short and Rudolph embracing and sharing a friendly kiss. Martin had deliveredthe opening monologueof the 50th anniversary special, while Rudolph also appeared and performed sketches. As a result of Short being sick, Martin says that he and Short would have to reschedule their shows this weekend in Durham, North Carolina and Knoxville, Tennessee

Unfortunately, we have to reschedule this weekends sold out Durham and Knoxville dates to

10/17 Knoxville and 10/18 Durham. So sorry for the inconvenience. I think well be funnier then, anyway, Martin said.

Coincidentally, during the SNL 50th anniversary special, Colin Jost had made a joke about how those in attendance could get sick. During the specials Weekend Update segment, Jost joked about all of the comedy legends being together in a single studio.

Health experts are facing increased pressure this winter in the face of outbreaks of COVID, the flu, RSV and nanovirus, which theyre calling a quad-demic, Jost quipped. So we did the smart thing and packed every beloved entertainer over 60 into one tiny space.

A myriad of SNL alums and other guest stars joined together to celebrate the milestone anniversary of the variety sketch series on Sunday. Alums who attended and performed onstage included Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, John Mulaney, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, Pete Davidson, Rachel Dratch and more. Meanwhile, Tom Hanks, Sabrina Carpenter, Pedro Pascal, Jason Momoa, Bad Bunny, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were some of the stars in the audience and/or made appearances in sketches.
