Coachella Highlights: Guava Island to Stream on Amazon Prime Video

Escape the Crowds and Enjoy Coachella's Best Moments at Home

For those who prefer to avoid the crowds, port-a-potties, and expensive water bottles of Coachella, fear not. Two of the festival's most anticipated moments will be available to stream in the comfort of your living room.

Guava Island: A Tropical Thriller Premieres on Amazon Prime Video

Just days after Netflix announced the release of Homecoming, a documentary capturing Beyoncé's iconic 2018 Coachella performance, Donald Glover and Amazon made a major announcement of their own. Guava Island, Glover's highly anticipated film co-starring Rihanna, will premiere after his performance at the festival and immediately begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video on Saturday at 12:01 A.M. PT.

The hourlong film, shot in Cuba, is described as "a tropical thriller about a local musician who wants to throw a festival." It was directed by Hiro Murai, the visionary behind the "This Is America" music video, and stars Letitia Wright from Black Panther.

The plot and style of Guava Island reportedly draw inspiration from classic films like Purple Rain and City of God.

Amazon Studios Acquires Streaming Rights to Guava Island

In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, revealed that she purchased the streaming rights to the film after viewing a single-view digital sizzle reel that expired 30 minutes after she received it.

"I would have committed to Donald sight unseen," she told the magazine. "I knew whatever he wanted to amplify would have relevance and be entertaining. He has that ability to create cultural moments and spread a message that's interesting."

  Limited-Time Streaming Availability

While Guava Island will be available to stream on Prime for 18 hours on Saturday, it will not be free indefinitely. It will also be simulcast on Coachella's YouTube Channel stream at 5 P.M. P.T. on Saturday and simultaneously on Amazon's Twitch platform.

So, gather your friends, prepare some snacks, and get ready to experience Coachella's best moments from the comfort of your own home.
