The first footage from the upcoming season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds teases new genre-twisting episodes that give Star Trek takes on a murder mystery, a romantic comedy and a documentary-style episode. The stunt episodes build on the Paramount+ sci-fi shows second season, which made headlines with a musical episode.

The new season will consist of 10 episodes and debut sometime this season.

The official description: In season three when we reconnect with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, still under the command of Captain Pike (Anson Mount), they face the conclusion of season twos harrowing encounter with the Gorn. But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test our characters grit and resolve. An exciting twist on classicStar Trek, season three takes characters both new and beloved, to new heights and dives into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy and mystery with varying genres never before seen on any otherStar Trek. The trailer follows the January release of Paramount+s long-awaited Star Trek: Section 31 movie, which was considered a miss by both critics and fans, scoring only 20 percent and 16 percent, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. Strange New Worlds is considered the brightest spot in Paramount+s Star Trek franchise (along with the acclaimed third season of Star Trek: Picard).

Strange New Worlds stars Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun and Martin Quinn.

Season three features guest stars Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt, Cillian OSullivan, Melanie Scrofano and Carol Kane, with special guest star Paul Wesley.
