Spotlight Politics: City Council Passes New Map-June 2024
Jun 26, 2025 10:00 PM

In this week’s edition ofSpotlight Politics:

The City Council passes a new ward map, avoiding the possibility of allowing voters to weigh-in via a referendum. And Mayor Lori Lightfoot orders a change to the city’s teen curfew, but may have gone beyond her executive powers.

With COVID-19 cases rising there’s a possibility that Cook County may soon re-impose an indoor mask mandate, but Chicago may not follow. And Gov. J.B. Pritzker signs legislation banning so-called “ghost guns” in Illinois, while his GOP gubernatorial challenger Richard Irvin fends of questions about old texts in which he called former President Donald Trump an “idiot” and a “bigoted racist.”

Our politics team of Amanda Vinicky, Paris Schutz and Heather Cherone takes on those stories and more.
