Jeff Hiller took home the award for supporting actor in a comedy series for his role in Somebody Somewhere at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday, marking his first win at the awards show.
I feel like Im gonna cry because the past 25 years Ive been like, World, I wanna be an actor and the worlds like, Maybe computers,' Hiller said at the beginning of his acceptance speech. He then thanked HBO for putting a show about sweaty, middle aged people on the same network as the sexy teens of Euphoria.
Hiller went on to thank the shows writers for penning a show about connecting and love in this time when compassion is seen as a weakness. Thank you to my sweet husband and my family for never laughing at me. And most of all, thank you Bridget Everett, he said of the shows star. Youve changed my life and you told so many people to believe in themselves and they do.
In a surprising victory, Hiller beat out The Studios Ike Barinholtz, The Four Seasons Colman Domingo, Shrinkings Harrison Ford, The Bears Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Shrinkings Michael Urie and Saturday Night Lives Bowen Yang for the award.
In addition to best supporting actor in a comedy, Somebody Somewhere was nominated for best writer for a comedy series at the awards show.
Prior to the awards show, Hiller spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his nomination and revealed he was excited to celebrate with the other first-time nominees. Katherine LaNasa on The Pitt also got nominated, and shes this person whos been trying to be an actor for a zillion years, and now shes on this crazy [successful] show, and she plays that role so beautifully, he said in August. She reached out to me over Instagram, and I was so touched by that.
Nate Bargatze is hosting the 2025 Emmy Awards, which are being held at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. The awards show is airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ from 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET.
