As Shogun prepares tobegin production in Vancouver at the beginning of the new year, FX is revealing new and returning castmembers.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Asami Mizukawa (Aya), Masataka Kubota (Hyga), Sho Kaneta (Hidenobu), Takaaki Enoki (Lord Ito) and Jun Kunimura (Gda) will be joining the Emmy-winning shows second season.

Returning castmembers include Hiroyuki Sanada (Toranaga) and Cosmo Jarvis (Blackthorne), Fumi Nikaid (Ochiba), Shinnosuke Abe (Buntaro), Hiroto Kanai (Omi), Yoriko Dguchi (Kiri), Tommy Bastow (Alvito), Yuko Miyamoto (Gin), Eita Okuno (Saeki) and Yuka Kouri (Kiku). According to FX, the second installment is set ten years after the events of the first season andcontinues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined. Shogun was adapted from author James Clavells novel.

In the spring, co-creators and showrunners Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks wrapped a writers room for the forthcoming season. Other writers included Shannon Goss, Matt Lambert, Maegan Houang, Emily Yoshida, Caillin Puente and Sofie Somoroff.

Hiromi Kamata and Takeshi Fukunaga from the first season also return to direct season two episodes, as well as Marks, Anthony Byrne (FXsSay Nothing) and Kate Herron (Loki).

When Shogun season one was released in 2024, it became a critically acclaimed success and was the most-watched show in FXs history. It then continued to dominate during its respective award season, earning 18 Emmy nominations, including best drama series. Sanada also became the first Japanese actor to win the Emmy for best lead actor in a drama series and Anna Sawai made history as the first actress of Asian descent to win best lead actress in a drama series.
