As production on season two of Shgun ramps up, the Emmy-winning drama is adding more actors to its cast.
Risei Kukihara, Ry Sat, Seishiro Nishida, Mantaro Koichi and Takashi Yamaguchi have joined the ensemble for season two of the FX series, which is filming in Vancouver for a likely premiere sometime in 2027. Details of who the actors will play are being kept quiet, save for character names: Gabriel (Kukihara), Rin (Sat), Jshin (Nishida), Sait (Koichi) and Kan (Yamaguchi).
Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis will reprise their roles in season two, which is set more than a decade after the events of the first season. Fumi Nikaid, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno and Yuka Kouri will also return. FX officially renewed the series in April 2025 and has subsequently cast Asami Mizukawa, Masataka Kubota, Sho Kaneta, Takaaki Enoki, Jun Kunimura and Ren Meguro.
Of the five new additions to the cast, Yamaguchi is probably best known to U.S. audiences, having appeared in Letters From Iwo Jima, Apple TVs Pachinko and episodes of CBS Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and Foxs Accused. Sat had a role in Martin Scorseses Silence and has a host of film and TV credits in Japan, as does Koichi. Nishidas 2021 film tsunahiki no Koi/Love and the Grand Tug-of-War won him the best producer award at the 16th Japan Film Festival Los Angeles. Shgun will mark Kukiharas first major role.
FX Productions is the studio for Shgun. Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks created the series for television, based on James Clavells novel, and executive produce with Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, Michael De Luca and Sanada.
Kukihara is repped by 42 and CAA.
