‘Severance’ Renewed at Apple TV+ on Heels of Season 2 Finale
‘Severance’ Renewed at Apple TV+ on Heels of Season 2 Finale-May 2024
May 15, 2025 4:00 AM

Waffle parties for everyone: Severance will return for a third season at Apple TV+.

The streamer announced the renewal just a few hours after the second-season finale of Severance debuted late Thursday. The series is Apple TV+s most watched drama to date.

The idea of getting to make more Severance with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the worlds finger traps combined, series creator, writer and executive producer Dan Erickson said in a statement. I cant wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread and malice with these truly incredible people. Added executive producer and director Ben Stiller, referring to the shows central conceit of people with divided work and non-work personae, Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences Ive ever been a part of. While I have no memory of this, Im told making season three will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.

Apple CEO Tim Cook (following up on a previous playful Severance plug) also reacted to the news early Friday with a reply to Ben Stiller on X (formerly Twitter). Season 3 of Severance is available upon request, he wrote, signing the post as Tim C.

In typical Severance fashion, the season two finale (read major spoilers here) answered some questions about whats going on at Lumon Industries while raising a number of others. One thing the timing of the renewal could facilitate is a shorter break between seasons: Due in part to writers and actors striking for better contracts in 2023, season two premiered almost three years after the conclusion of the first run.

Our desire is to get the show on a more regular cadence, Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter in the finale interview linked above. Its been challenging, with COVID and then the strikes, but thats part of what I want to be able to do in the future, is let people know what were doing and what to expect.

I couldnt be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple and the whole Severance team, said star and executive producer Adam Scott. Oh hey also not a huge deal but if you see my innie, please dont mention any of this to him. Thanks.

Said Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss, What Ben, Dan, Adam and the talented cast and crew behind Severance have brought to the screen is undeniable magic. Were so proud to be the home for this brilliant series and look forward to audiences experiencing whats in store for season three.

Through the first six episodes of season two, Severance has amassed 3.68 billion viewing minutes in the U.S., according to Nielsen. Among Apple TV+ series, only season three of Ted Lasso has had better numbers. Apple says Severance is its most watched series globally (though as is usually the case with streaming services, it did not provide viewing figures).

Scott stars with Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, Patricia Arquette, Sarah Bock and lafur Darri lafsson.

Fifth Season is the studio behind Severance. Erickson and Stiller executive produce with John Lesher, Jackie Cohn, Mark Friedman, Beau Willimon, Jordan Tappis, Sam Donovan, Caroline Baron, Richard Schwartz, Nicholas Weinstock, Scott and Arquette.
