The Notorious RGB has settled some of the most complex legal debates in this country, but there was one question on which the Supreme Court justice had not yet handed down a ruling: Is a hot dog a sandwich?

　　After pondering arguments from both sides of the issue, Ginsburg issued her opinion on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: Yes, a hot dog is a sandwich.

　　But as a true legal scholar, Justice Ginsburg doesn’t just arbitrarily decree it. She asks the tough questions and weighs the evidence before arriving at her decision: “You tell me what a sandwich is, and I’ll tell you whether a hot dog is a sandwich,” she says to Colbert. Colbert defines a hot dog as two pieces of bread with almost any type of filling in between as long as it’s not more bread. Lightning-fast, RBG has the follow-up: “Does that include a roll that’s cut open?”

　　She mulls the question, presumably consulting her mental archives of bun vs. bread precedent, and finally issues a firm ruling on whether a hot dog is a sandwich: “On your definition, yes it is.”
