Quick Doughnuts with Anise Sugar and Orange Marmalade Recipe
Quick Doughnuts with Anise Sugar and Orange Marmalade Recipe-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 12:40 AM

If you have ever tried to make homemade doughnuts, you know that the process can be a bit of a hassle. But transforming store-bought biscuit dough into delicious golden doughnuts could not be easier, seriously. The slightly crunchy texture of fried dough dusted with anise sugar is a perfect complement to tangy orange marmalade.

Ingredients

makes 16 doughnuts

  Canola oil, for frying

  1 cup sugar

  1 tablespoon anise seed

Two 16.3-ounce tubes Pillsbury Grands! refrigerated buttermilk biscuit dough

  1 cup orange marmalade

Step 1

Heat 3 inches of oil to 325°F in a countertop electric fryer or deep pot. If you don’t have a deep-fry thermometer, a good way to test if the oil is hot enough is to stick the end of a wooden spoon or chopstick in it. If bubbles circle around the end, then you’re good to go.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, combine the sugar and anise seed.

Step 3

Open the tubes of biscuits and pull the individual pieces apart to give you 16 doughnuts. Fry a couple of pieces at a time, keeping an eye on maintaining the oil temperature. As the doughnuts puff up and rise to the surface, flip them over with a slotted spoon, skimmer, or chopsticks. They should take roughly 2 minutes on each side. Carefully remove the doughnuts from the oil and transfer directly into the bowl of anise sugar, tossing to coat evenly.

Step 4

Fit a small pastry bag with a large tip and fill with the orange marmalade. Poke a hole into the middle of each doughnut with the tip and pipe the marmalade inside the doughnuts to fill. These are best served warm.
