Researchers at two local universities are looking into how poverty impacts young minds. In one study, researchers at Northwestern University find that children whose mothers have less education don’t hear sounds as clearly as children whose mothers have more education. And a psychiatrist at the University of Illinois at Chicago finds that adults who were poor as children are less able to regulate their emotions. We have the story. Below, view a gallery of images of kids getting ready for testing in Nina Kras’ lab at Northwestern University.
