Perdue gluten-free chicken nuggets recalled because they may contain wood-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 12:41 AM

Georgia-based Perdue Foods issued a recall this week for 68,244 pounds of SimplySmart gluten-free, organic breaded chicken nuggets after three customers reported finding wood in the nuggets. The USDA’s Food Safety And Inspection Service has published the recall notice, which notes that said nuggets “may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically wood.”

The notice affects 22-oz. plastic-bag, frozen packages labeled “Perdue SimplySmart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets Gluten Free, with best by date 10/25/19 and UPC bar code 72745-80656. (View a label here.)

Customers first reported the wood to Purdue, which then notified the USDA earlier this week. No adverse reactions have been reported due to the wood parts, but consumers are urged not to eat the chicken nuggets and instead to throw them away or return them to the stores where they were purchased.

Consumers with questions can contact Perdue Consumer Care at (877) 727-3447.
