Chicago police say it’s unclear if anyone was struck after an off-duty officer was involved in a shooting in Belmont Cragin on Wednesday morning.

The shooting occurred at around 8:15 a.m. in the 2000 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to a preliminary statement from the Chicago Police Department.

“The off-duty officer was transported to an area hospital for observation and released,” the CPD said in its statement. “At this time, it’s unknown if there were any individuals injured in this shooting incident.”

Police spokesperson Tom Ahern said an investigative response team and Area 5 detectives are at the scene investigating, as is the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.

The officer involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.

“This matter remains under investigation,” the CPD said, “and all further inquiries can be directed to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability at (312) 746-3609.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
