Netflix’s New Releases Coming in April 2025
Netflix’s New Releases Coming in April 2025-May 2024
May 12, 2025 9:20 PM

The return of the sweetest dating show on television; the long-awaited debut of an animated adaptation of a classic Japanese video game; Charlie Brookers latest batch of tech horror; a possible breakout action move from Japan; Joe Goldbergs last stand; and Tom Hardy fighting crime and doing accents are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in April.

A third season of Netflixs critically acclaimed and Emmy-winning reality dating series Love on the Spectrum hits the streamer on April 2. The franchise, which began with the much-loved Australian version in 2019, has spawned various international adaptations, and we get a third season of the American version here as a new batch of singles on the autism spectrum go out in search of love. On April 3, Netflix drops its long-in-development and hotly anticipated animated adaptation of the popular Japanese video game Devil May Cry. The streamer, in collaboration with game maker Capcom, announced the project all the way back in 2018, but fans will finally get to see the final product this month. Produced by South Korean animation company Studio Mir and Adi Shankar (the creative force behind Netflixs animated series Castlevania) Devil May Cry follows demon hunter Dante as he attempts to foil a demonic invasion of Earth.

Netflixs big play for April, at least in terms of social media interaction and inspiring a thousand columns and think pieces about our coming dystopia, is the seventh season of its sci-fi tech horror anthology Black Mirror. Charlie Brooker is back with six new episodes of the show that really makes you want to unplug and go out and touch grass. Five of the six episodes are under an hour, with one, a sequel to USS Callister, clocking in at almost 90 minutes. Among the stars to feature in season seven are Awkwafina, Issa Rae, Paul Giamatti, Billy Magnussen, Tracee Ellis Ross, Milanka Brooks, Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, Patsy Ferran, and Lewis Gribben.

A possible word-of-mouth hit for Netflix could be the original feature Bullet Train Explosion, set to release on April 23. The film is a reboot of the original 1975 film The Bullet Train, which inspired the Hollywood blockbuster Speed. Directed by Shinji Higuchiknown for blending stunning visuals with gripping human drama in works like Shin Godzillathis panic-suspense thriller follows the intense struggles of those racing to save lives under extreme conditions. The screenplay is penned by Kazuhiro Nakagawa and Norichika Oba, with Kota Ishizuka producing under the production company Episcope. The film stars Tsuyoshi Kusanagi in a key role, promising a high-stakes, visually spectacular experience.

The end is nigh for Netflixs You, with the fifth and final season debuting on April 24. After his stint in foggy London, the ever-charming serial killer Joe Goldberg returns to New York, but this time, hes married to Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), and with that comes plenty of family drama. Joe has to finally face up to his murderous past, and battle for survival as his crimes finally close in. Season five of You also stars Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp, Amy-Leigh Hickman and Griffin Matthews.

On April 25, Netflix has a great opportunity to snap its losing streak (with critics, at least) when it comes to its original films when they debut gritty crime drama Havoc on the platform. Directed by Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans (yes, it is the guy who did the two incredible The Raid films and also the well-received crime series Gangs of London) is behind the feature that tells the story of a hardened detective descending into a criminal underworld to rescue a politicians son after a botched drug deal. All of that sounds great, but the primary reason to watch this is that it stars Tom Hardy who from the teaser looks to have fully committed with a special little accent for his fans too. The film also stars Forest Whitaker, Timothy Olyphant, and Jessie Buckley.

Movies added to Netflix in April include The Addams Family, The Age of Innocence, Big Daddy, Bonnie Clyde, The Breakfast Club, Conan the Destroyer, Couples Retreat, The Croods, Draft Day, Field of Dreams, For Love of the Game, Geostorm, Heat, Insidious: Chapter 2, K-9, Lucy, Matilda, The Mauritanian, The Place Beyond the Pines, Psycho, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Smokey and the Bandit, Smokey and the Bandit II, and Uncle Buck.
