Netflix Greenlights New Romance Drama ‘The Granville Girls’-March 2024

Netflix has given a greenlight to a new 8-episode historical romance series, The Granville Girls.

The scripted series from showrunner and writer Adriana Maggs and Canadian indie producer Shaftesbury is based on The Gilbert Girls book series by Cat Cahill. The writers historical romance books are usually set in rural Colorado, but The Granville Girls will be shot north of the U.S. border amid the picturesque Canadian Rockies.

The Granville Girls is a big blue sky series that offers the comfort of female friendship and the allure of period romance. Between Adrianas distinctive voice and Christinas powerhouse producing, were confident that audiences are going to be hooked from the first episode, Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury, co-directors of content for Canada at Netflix said in a joint statement on Thursday. Theres no word on casting, but a series logline from the producers states: As the great railway sweeps across the Canadian Rockies, Emma Daniels becomes a Granville Girl, one of a select few women hired to work at the Granville Hotel. The job offers adventure, friendship, and a chance to support her familyif she can resist the hotels strictest rule: never fraternize with the men. But when Emmas heart is captured by the hotels mysterious builder, she faces a choice that could cost her everything.

Maggs has credits that include Law Order Toronto: Criminal Intent and Frontier. Shaftesburys Christina Jennings (Murdoch Mysteries, Departure) will executive produce the series for Netflix. The streaming giant has had success in the western romance space with the Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly-starrer Ransom Canyon, based on the Jodi Thomas, Texas-set novels.
