Millie Bobby Brown is sharing memories from her wedding to Jake Bongiovilast year.
While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Electric State star shared that she enlisted help from her Stranger Things co-star Matthew Modine, who plays Papa, to officiate the ceremony.
The second Jake proposed, I said, I know who needs to marry us. Its my papa,' she said, referring to Modines Stranger Things role, as Fallon shared a photograph of the couple at the altar with Modine. She recalled calling Modine to ask him the honor and him just saying, Okay, sure. However, it didnt seem he thought she was serious because eight months later when Brown asked if he was still officiating, she said the actor responded, Oh! You really wanted me to do that?
I hate to be that person but it was perfect, she added of the ceremony. You put so much pressure on if its going to be good and actually when I kind of turned up, I was of course directing the whole thing because thats my nature When I went down the aisle, everything became so real and pure, and nothing about that was like a production. It felt so beautiful and the most meaningful thing ive ever done in my life.
Brown married Bongiovi last May. Though the ceremony went smoothly, Brown recalled one moment in the wedding planning process that didnt go according to plan.
When she was attending her final dress fitting, she spotted a paparazzi filming her and feared that they would be able to see her dress through the window. To prevent that from happening, Brown decided to stage a scene in which she wore another dress that was the complete opposite a bedazzled dress that was peachy tone with gloves.
I was like, Im going to walk out and im going to start fake crying, pretending that I found the gown,' Brown said. And she got the whole thing and it sold. She thought she got some quality [gossip] It definitely wasnt. I tricked you!
Brown even brought the video that was filmed to show her emotionally reacting to the decoy dress as the woman recorded her from outside. It was the best of my career so far, Brown quipped when Fallon complimented her acting in that moment.
Later on, Fallon asked Brown about the video she recently posted on her social media in which she calls out critics who have commented on her appearance. In a near three-minute video shared on her social media, Brown said, I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason people cant seem to grow up with me. Instead, they act like Im supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did onStranger Thingsseason one, and because I dont, Im now a target.
The actress said she refrained from ever speaking out because she kept making excuses because she was afraid. Then she also thought, And when is the right time for a woman to stand up for herself? Amid the ongoing conversation it has sparked, Brown said she spoke at a UNICEF event to call on world leaders to protect women.
So we were actually able to turn that into a positive way of helping to invest in girls lives, to make sure they fulfill their education and have a prosperous life, Brown added.
British actor and comedian Matt Lucas took to his Instagram right after theStranger Thingsstar posted a video and issued an apology for comments he made about her appearance.
