Law Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, a local adaptation of Dick Wolfs global Law Order TV series franchise, has nabbed a field-leading 20 nominations heading into the Canadian Screen Awards.

The Citytv series will challenge for best drama, best episode director for Sharon Lewis and Holly Dale, and best drama writing for Tassie Cameron, among other categories. The best TV drama competition also has entrants for the CBCs Bones of Crow drama, which picked up 12 nominations, and the CBCs police procedural Allegiance. Other multiple nominees on the TV side include CTVs Children Ruin Everything and CBCs Run the Burbs with 12 mentions each, followed by the CBCs Paris 2024 Summer Olympics telecast with 11 nominations.

In the film categories, director Matthew Rankins Universal Language leads the field with 13 nominations, including for best drama and best direction. Rankins Farsi- and French-language offbeat homage to Iranian cinemaset in Winnipeg and Montreal picked up the first-ever audience award in Cannes Directors Fortnight and represented Canada in the bestinternational feature competition at the Academy Awards.

The best movie competition at the CSAs also has nominations for the Donald Trump film The Apprentice, Darkest Miriam, Gamma Rays, Village Keeper and Who Do I Belong To. And the best movie director category has mentions for Naomi Jaye for Darkest Miriam, Henry Bernadet for Gamma Rays, Ara Ball for LOuragan F.Y.T., Atom Egoyan for Seven Veils, and Meryam Joobeur for Who Do I Belong To.

Elsewhere, the best leading drama role competition will see The Apprentice star Sebastian Stan contend against Carrie-Anne Moss in Die Alone and Britt Lower for Darkest Miriam, among others. Additional film category multiple nominees include David Cronenbergs The Shrouds with nine mentions, and Sam McGlynns Deaner 89 and Karen Chapmans Village Keeper, both with seven.

The nominations for the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards were announced by The Academy of Canadian Cinema Television in 149 film, TV and digital media categories on Wednesday. The winners in the top categories will be announced on June 1 in Toronto during a gala hosted by Lisa Gilroy and to stream live onCBC Gem.
