　　My friend Dana gifted me the book Jillian by Halle Butler, probably just so we could discuss it once I’d finished reading—which didn’t take long. The novel follows two female coworkers, Megan and Jillian, whose disdain for each other proves they have more in common than they assume. The book has moments of hilarity, but the reader can feel it building to a dark climax. Dana put it well in our instant-message version of book-club discussion: “It kind of answers that ago-old question of what happens if you actually allow yourself to go crazy.” [Kate Bernot]
