Last Call: Critics have no appetite for new Netflix show Insatiable
Last Call: Critics have no appetite for new Netflix show Insatiable-September 2024

Wow, critics hate Insatiable

Before it even debuted, Netflix’s new series Insatiable inspired a Change.org petition demanding Netflix cancel the “fat-shaming” show. I wrote about the petition, but I adopted a sort of well-we-don’t-know-yet attitude, because well, we didn’t know yet. All we had to go on was a minute-long trailer (above) that didn’t offer much in the way of context for how the show approaches young women’s weight and diets. But now the show is out and um, the reviews are… youch. Maybe I’ll just skip this one. [Kate Bernot]

Now Toto is covering Weezer

Today I learned that their cover of Toto’s Africa” is Weezer’s biggest hit in at least a decade. Even better, I found out that classic ’80s band Toto is returning the favor, and performed a cover of Weezer’s own “Hash Pipe” off of Pinkerton at a recent live show. It’s kind of funny how polished the song sounds with a pair of keyboards, two full drum kits, and a hall-of-fame worthy guitar solo. Well done, Toto. Now do the “Sweater Song” next? [Gwen Ihnat]
