A trio of performers have been added to Amazon MGM Studios untitled feature focusing on former Navy SEAL Mike Thornton.
Kodi Smit-McPhee, Aden Young and Sam Rechner have joined the cast of director Patrick Hughes film, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. The previously announced castmembers include Alan Ritchson, Joe Cole, Hoa Xuande, Brian Duong, Duy Nguyen and Kyle Allen.
Based on a true story, the project is set in the final days of the Vietnam War and centers on Navy SEAL Thornton (Ritchson) as he leads a mission to rescue five men stuck behind enemy lines in North Vietnam. The film highlights Thorntons efforts as he was pursued by 150 soldiers and later swam for hours through the South China Sea with both a wounded lieutenant and fellow soldier tied to him. Thorntons actions earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor. Hughes (The Hitmans Bodyguard) helmed the film from a script by Ritchson, Mark Semos and Jason Hall (American Sniper). Producers include Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller for Balboa Productions, Todd Lieberman and Alex Young for Hidden Pictures, Ritchsons banner AllyCat Entertainment and Alan Rautbort.
Smit-McPhee earned an Oscar nomination and received a Golden Globe Award for his work in Jane Campions The Power of the Dog. Other feature credits include The Road, Let Me In and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He recently appeared opposite Angelina Jolie in Maria and on Alfonso Cuarns Apple limited series Disclaimer, and he voiced a role in the Oscar-nominated animated film Memoir of a Snail.
Rechner is known for his breakout role as the high school bully in Steven Spielbergs The Fabelmans, which landed seven Oscar nominations. He also starred in Netflixs Heartbreak High and can be seen in next months Scream 7.
Youngs credits include Black Robe, the Robert De Niro-starring Killer Elite and the series Rectify, with the latter earning Young two Critics Choice TV Award nominations. He is represented by Buchwald, Artist Representation Company and Shanahan Management.
