Kevin Spacey is pushing back against the Channel 4 documentary Spacey Unmasked, billed as a forensic look at his career and the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct against him, ahead of a U.K. premiere on May 6-7.
I will not sit back and be attacked by a dying networks one-sided documentary about me in theirdesperateattemptfor ratings, Spacey said in a long thread on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday. The Channel 4 doc comes in the wake of Spacey beingacquitted in July 2023of nine charges in a U.K. criminal case, and will air on Max and Investigation Discovery, though no U.S. premiere dates have been announced. In his social media post, Spacey rejected the British broadcaster as the right forum for addressing his controversial past: Theres aproper channelto handle allegations against me and its notChannel 4. Each time I have been given the time and a proper forum to defend myself, the allegations have failed under scrutiny and I have been exonerated, the Oscar winner insisted.
Spacey said Channel 4 had given him too little time to respond to accusations made in the documentary ahead of its May 6 and 7 premiere dates in the U.K.
Over the last week, I haverepeatedlyrequestedthat@Channel4 afford me more than 7 days to respond to allegations made against me dating back 48 yearsand provide me with sufficient details to investigate these matters.Channel 4 has refused on the basis that they feelthat asking for a response in 7 days to new, anonymized and non-specific allegations is a fair opportunityfor me to refute any allegations made against me, Spacey wrote on X.
The actor promises a fuller response to the British documentary. Tune in this weekend to see myresponse onhttp://X.com/kevinspacey. Channel 4 and @RoastBeef TV may find themselves speechless, but I no longer will be, Spacey wrote.
He faced nine criminal charges from four different men in his U.K. trial, ranging from unwanted touching to, according to testimony from one man, performing oral sex on the manwhile he was asleep. The charges stemmed from alleged acts that occurred from 2001 to 2013; Spacey was artistic director of Londons Old Vic Theatre from 2004-15.
Spacey Unmaskedis set to air on Channel 4 in the U.K. before it premieres in the U.S. and other territories. All3MediaInternational is handling international sales of the documentary and struck a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery for rights to the United States and several other countries.
