ESPN, Disney+, and Skydance Sports are in development on a docuseries about the Kansas City Chiefs.

Directed by Kristen Lappas and produced by much of the the team behind The Last Dance, the six-parter will look at the history of the storied NFL team. Theres also a focus on the 2024 season which ended with the Philadelphia Eagles easily winning over the Chiefs by a score of 40-22 at Super Bowl LIX.

ESPN and Disney+ know that sports fans are interested in stories that take them beyond the Xs and Os, and this series will explore the legacy of the Chiefs franchise while also showcasing the emotional highs and lows of building a championship-winning team, Burke Magnus, president of content, ESPN, said in a statement on Friday. The original ESPN docuseries also follows the NFL partnering with David Ellisons Skydance to launch the sports-focused entertainment venture Skydance Sports. The docuseries will be produced by Words + Pictures in association with Skydance Sports, NFL Films, 2PM Productions, and Foolish Club Studios the Chiefs own production studio launched to develop scripted and unscripted content.

The Chiefs have already expanded in the TV space with last years Hallmark Channel filmHoliday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story; and with the online claymation shortA Kingdom Christmas Story: Hail Merry. The latest docuseries is expected to debut later this year on ESPN and Disney+.

With footage from the 2024 season, the series will include interviews with players, coaches and team execs, all followed on and off the field.
