A drama project starring Jared Padalecki thats in development at CBS is taking another step forward.
The drama, in which Padalecki would play a doctor serving patients in rural Texas, has opened a development writers room. Development rooms, as covered under the Writers Guild of Americas 2023 contract, have three or more writers (including a showrunner) working on scripts ahead of a series order. The room will be open for a minimum of 10 weeks, per the WGA contract.
The CBS project, first announced in January, reunites Padalecki and his Anna Fricke, who was the showrunner of Walker at The CW. The untitled drama comes from Walker producer CBS Studios, where Fricke has an overall deal and Padalecki has a first-look producing deal. The show is not yet targeted for any specifc season and is part of the networks year-round approach to development. The logline for the show reads, A headstrong, devoted doctor (Padalecki) practices his unique style of improvisational medicine alongside his new protg, a young doctor escaping her past, as they operate a mobile clinic and heal the bodies and souls of their underserved community in the medical desert of rural Texas.
Fricke is executive producing via her Pursued By a Bear company. Padalecki and Pursued By a Bears Laura Terry also exec produce.
Padalecki guest starred on three episodes of CBS Fire Country last season. Hes set to reunite with his Supernatural co-stars Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins on the final season of The Boys on Prime Video in 2026.
